Y5-5 Curriculum
Young 5s
Skills- Tearing/ripping, cutting, glueing, basic painting, stamping, following directions and procedures safely, exploration of materials
Concepts: Shapes, lines, color
Kindergarten
Skills- Cutting, Coloring, ripping, tracing, basic painting with watercolor and tempera
Concepts- Warm and cold colors, the 5 basic shapes (square, rectangle, triangle, circle, oval), simple patterns (AB, ABC), special relationships (space, overlapping), exploration of materials, problem solving strategies, following procedures safely
1st Grade
Skills: Tracing, basic measurement (division of space), creating designs, color mixing
Concepts: Primary Colors, line directions, order, shapes, overlap, lines, organization (composition), procedures, variety, weaving, problem solving strategies
2nd Grade
Skills: Folding, painting skills, sculpture , collage, printing
Concepts: Secondary, intermediate, and complementary colors, Elements and Principles of Art, symmetry, pattern, balance
***2nd graders are assessed on Color Theory using a written pre -and post-test and a pre-and post-project.
3rd Grade- 5th Grade (Under Construction)
