Endless Life of People, offset lithograph, 2010 Mushrooms, acrylic on canvas, 2005 Today's project is inspired by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. As you can see, she likes to cover her artwork in dots! She is known for her paintings, sculptures, and mirror/infinity rooms. Her Infinity Room "Fireflies in the Water" is currently on display at the Todelo Museum of Art. Take a look at this video: Check out this website for more information on her life and work. Watch the video below and enjoy making art!

All you need for this exercise is a piece of paper, a pencil, maybe some markers, and some shapes to trace! We've specifically practiced this kind of design-making in 1st grade, however, anyone can try this! You can do this on your own or with a family member on the same paper (collaborative art!) or separately. Have fun! Before we begin, take a look at this fun and colorful painting by American artist and designer Laurel Burch. These whimsical cats are going to inspire us today! Maybe you could also spend some time reading your favorite book about a cat? My daughter Matilda and I like to read "Kitten's First Full Moon" by Kevin Henkes. You can find other famous artwork featuring cats such as these by German artist Franz Marc: March is YAM!! All students and families are invited to take a walk downtown Ann Arbor and check out the beautiful student artwork featured in the windows of local businesses (see attached pdf for details). Artwork by selected Bryant and Pattengill (my classes only) students will be exhibited at Real Seafood Co. Please check out mainstreetannarbor.org for special events and workshops!!!
